Aeronautics Camp 

FREE OVERNIGHT CAMP FOR HIGH SCHOOL FEMALES

Nikki Kukwa Memorial Aeronautics Camp (NKMAC) is a FREE overnight camp for high school females interested in careers in aeronautics.

Please complete:

Twenty female, high school students will receive a three-day camp award through the Nikki Kukwa Memorial
Aviation Fund and ��MŮ��’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering. Selection for this camp
means there is no financial expectation to participants and their families.
Participants will explore careers in aviation while staying in dorms on ��MŮ�� Kent Campus. The camp includes an airport tour, experiences at KSU’s Air Traffic Control and Flight Simulator Labs and aflight out of the KSU Airport. Participants will also learn more about majors in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, financial aid and campus life. 

How To Apply:      Upon submission, your application will require one of the following items:500-word Essay: Describe why you would like to attend the camp. Upload the document within the online application. Teacher Recommendation Letter: Ask a teacher to write a letter of recommendation and submit it via email to Cassy Mendenhall at cmenden6@kent.edu.

Creative Coding Summer Workshop

Junior and senior high school students with little or no background in coding and computer graphics are invited to a two-afternoon, hands-on workshop hosted at the ��M�� main campus. Led by faculty in the School of Emerging Media and Technology, attendees will learn the basics of JavaScript and leave with a distinctive digital artifact and the tools to create generative art. Fashion School

Fashion School The academy is a one-week program, June 9-15 2024, that introduces high school students to key areas in fashion design and merchandising. The Summer Fashion Academy will allow creative, motivated teens to explore their passion for fashion in a pre-college, summer residence program.

The Summer Fashion Academy is for students who:

• Have completed their sophomore year of high school
• Are 16 to 18 years of age
• Are passionate about fashion
• Are interested in exploring careers in the $4 billion fashion industry

Space within the academy is limited to 30 participants and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration opens in Spring.

Kupita/Transiciones (Undergraduate Students)

Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) is a free program that includes a cultural orientation, transition experience, and year-long mentoring program for newly admitted and transfers African American, Latinx, Hispanic, Native American, and Multiracial students in mind. Spanning over the academic year, students will engage in activities to learn how to successfully navigate their college career by focusing on the cultural and social climate of ��MŮ��.​​​​​​  All students are welcome to join.

As a result of participating in the Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) program, we hope students:

• Feel more connected to ��MŮ��
• Establish their ��MŮ�� Familia
• Are affirmed in their cultural Identity
• Gain an appreciation for different cultures
• Identify opportunities for engagement at ��MŮ��

After students participate in the cultural orientation and transition experience, students will continue into the K/T Mentoring Program. The K/T Mentoring Program offers students an opportunity to have their mentor from K/T provide continued assistance, guidance, and support throughout their entire freshman year.

Porthouse College Academy (Prospective BFA Students) 

The Porthouse College Academy is a musical theatre summer intensive program for high school graduates intending to enroll at ��MŮ��’s School of Theatre and Dance as a theatre major. Participants may enroll in either the 3 or 6 credit hour program.

Art Enrichment for Youth grades K - 8

Classes offered Fall and Spring 

For eight weeks in our Art Enrichment classes, children grades  K - 8 will become art investigators to uncover their relationships with places, spaces, and objects.

By combining art studio activities with discussions of art as it relates to different time periods and cultures, students come to understand the world of art better. Students are organized by cross-age groupings and work with a variety of media to develop their individual artistic skills. Art Enrichment is a student-teacher education program at ��M��.

Example activities include drawing, painting (acrylic, tempera, watercolor), printmaking, clay, and 3D sculptural materials.

Porthouse College Academy

Porthouse Theatre, ��MŮ��’s summer professional theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, will host its annual Porthouse Theatre College Academy during the summer of 2024.

The Academy is ideal for performance students looking to jump start their college career and further develop their musical theatre skills. Students who enroll elect to receive 3 or 6 credit hours toward their BA Theatre Studies or BFA Musical Theatre degree.

��MŮ�� Intercollegiate Athletics Sports Camps provide opportunities for athletes of all ages to develop their skills in a fun, sportsmanlike environment. In addition to fundamental instruction, campers will be exposed to sport specific strategies and will have the chance to meet new people. Our goal as a Department is to offer sports camps that challenge athletes and promote individual improvement that will eventually lead to athletic success.

An additional offering to PEAK Summer Camp this year is swim lessons for those campers who request it. These lessons will be offered at no additional cost and will take place during your campers designated swim time. We plan to offer them 2-3 days per week, throughout all 9 weeks of camp!

Interested in bringing airplane and drone operations training to your high school? Eager to learn about safe flying practices and how to teach these subjects to your students? Inspired to create pathways for students to become a pilot of manned and unmanned aircraft? Ready to obtain your Remote Pilot Certificate? Join our workshop hosted by the College of Aeronautics and Engineering: “Drones: Coexisting with Planes.”

This three-day workshop is free and open to high school educators and administrators who want to educate future manned aircraft pilots and UAS operators. Topics covered include drone flight techniques, Part 107 certification guidance, drone registration procedures, and operating within a crewed environment. This workshop includes training sessions to use ��MŮ��’s established curriculum and tools to discuss with students the educational and career pathways, and training in virtual reality (VR) curriculum in aircraft pilot and UAS operations.

Peak Summer Camp

The PEAK Summer Camp is designed for children 6 - 12 years of age and is part of the American Camp Association. Each session is facilitated by highly motivated and energetic students and professionals. 

An additional offering to PEAK Summer Camp this year is swim lessons for those campers who request it. These lessons will be offered at no additional cost and will take place during your campers designated swim time. We plan to offer them 2-3 days per week, throughout all 9 weeks of camp!

Welcome to Camp Peak, a certified happy camper area! This stargazing and fire blazing week will be filled with camping, climbing, and how to have fun in the great outdoors. Let’s hop in the RV and get going. Your adventure is waiting!

WEEK 2: JUNE 8 – 12

"A PEAK into the Cosmos"
Suit up and take a trip into outer space. From making and launching your own rockets, building your own planet, to visiting the campus planetarium, this week is full of experiences that are out of this world!

WEEK 3: JUNE 15 – 19

"PEAK World Tour"
Join us this week as we stamp our passports during our adventures around the world! With “Trips” to Italy, Spain, China and even the good ‘ole USA, we will explore games and crafts that are unique to different cultures.

WEEK 4: JUNE 22 – 26

“PEAK’s a Circus, Enjoy the Show”
Come one come all to the best carnival of all! Who doesn’t enjoy a good show? Please join us as we have a good time “clowning around” and have a fun time! There will be several crafts, games, and a carnival your camper can participate in.

WEEK 5: JULY 6 – 10

"Heroes"
Grab your cape…or uniform, as we explore what it means to be a hero! This week we will look at comic books and beyond, to everyday heroes in society.

"Lights, Camera, PEAK"
Does being the center of the spotlight intrigue you? This week we step into the bright lights of the world’s entertainers and host our Annual Talent Show on Thursday!

"Happy Holidays"
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year”… SUMMER! Join us as we spend the week observing different holidays celebrated throughout the year.

PEAK Olympics”
“Tokyo is hosting the Olympic Games this summer! Since the summer games are a once in every four-year occurrence, we had to take part in it too! Our PEAK Olympians will be making crafts, playing games, and having their own taste of The Games.

"Aqua Adventure Week"

MARCO? Don’t be a fish out of water. Let’s grab our swimsuits and get ready to be soaked! Try to hold your breath for this wacky water week. POLO!

Upward Bound Students

Pre-College/TRIO Upward Bound programs include three federal TRIO Upward Bound programs that seek to increase educational opportunities and diminish barriers for first-generation, low income students and families through comprehensive services in targeted school districts. There are three Upward Bound programs at ��MŮ��: Classic, Math Science, and Health Professions. TRIO programs help students overcome, class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education.
